The Eat to Live Cookbook Project: Better Burgers

And last, but certainly not least, this week is my review of Dr. Fuhrman's Better Burgers. I enjoyed them for lunch one day and dinner the next with a side of Cauliflower Spinach Mashed "Potatoes."

It's been so long since I have actually tasted a real live cow burger that I have no idea whether or not these would satisfy a meat eater. But they might. If you have made these and tested them out on your SAD eating relatives, please let us know what their impression was!

Better Burgers
from The Eat to Live Cookbook by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, p. 250

Did I like it? Not nearly as my as my husband did, but I didn't put them on a bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and sugar free ketchup. Had I done that, I might have loved them.

Was it easy to make with readily available ingredients? The ingredients are standard, but it was quite a time consuming process. The recipe makes eight burgers, so it's worth the time because you get many meals out of it.

What specifically did I like about the recipe? I'm a big fan of cooked mushrooms, and these are basically mushroom walnut burgers.

What specifically didn't I like about the recipe? I can't describe it, but the flavor just wasn't my favorite. But I don't share that opinion with my husband. And again, the nuts! But this time, I just went ahead and used all of the nuts that the recipe called for just to see if the recipe was outstanding with the full amount (each burger is 1/2 ounce of nuts, or half of my nut allotment for the day).

Did my husband like it? He said these were the best veggie burgers I had ever made!

Did my teenage daughter like it? N/A

Did my eight or five year old try it? N/A

Would I make it again? Maybe--just because my husband loved them so much! They will probably make it on to my Fourth of July Veggie Burger Tasting Party menu.

Is there anything I would do to improve on it if I made it again? I was thinking that I would like to replace all or most of the walnuts with cooked lentils, and that is exactly what I might try next with this recipe.

Overall Grade (completely unscientific, I admit): A-
