I am an Organized Kitchen Geek

Have you entered my 4th of July Blogger Giveaway? Now's your chance!

No one would ever describe me as a woman of few words, but this does not need explanation:

Spices. Lots of them.
Alphabetized.
Heaven.
Cookbooks.

I got rid of the vast majority of my cookbooks over the past two years and purchased a nice number of new ones. I find that so few cookbooks actually jive with the way that I want to eat and many of the recipes that I test come from blogs and other Internet sources. Hence this:
My personal recipe files, organized neatly by category into plastic binders.
When I print a recipe from the Internet, I slip it into a plastic page protector (I told you I was a geek). Recipes get filed into the notebooks by type and when I use a recipe, it is kept nice and clean throughout the cooking process. I can also slip the paper out of the sleeve and takes notes on the recipe, because I am usually changing one thing or another. Every six months or so I go through the files and ditch the recipes that I tried and didn't love or the ones that I never made and am pretty sure I never will. It's a pretty rockin' system.

How do you keep track of your recipes?

Wow....this makes my kitchen look like a total mess! But it does inspire me to try those binders - love the idea! Right now mine are just piled up on my desk...tsk tsk. Your kitchen is so inspiring! Thank you! :)

Wow wow wow. Love your kitchen and the fantastic organization. I can only dream of getting organized like that in this life. I keep all my recipes on the internet. Post the ones I try and keep the rest as drafts. I've created a monster. But it's fun.

I love your recipe system and think it would work for me, too. Thanks!

aha..I am just like you. I have the same spice rack and in alphabetical order. However, I have now am in the process of creating my own files on the web where I keep all the recipes under recipes to try and a separate folder of recipes to try . Of course, these are all subdivided into specific categories. However, I just got rid of 6 liquor boxes of cookbook and it doesn't look like I have made a dent..I have 4 bookshelves of cookbooks in my kitchen!

I use the same system! I also rate each recipe 1-10 so I can remember if we liked it.

I can't wait to see your kitchen. I am unbelievably jealous!

Love your organization! I keep my printed recipes in binders as well, but they aren't nearly as neat as yours! lol....mine are kind of haphazardly put in misc binders. Love the inspiration though...may have to revamp mine!

What a great place for a spice rack! And I really enjoy seeing the progress and updates on your kitchen!
I'm using Evernote for recipes.... You can type into it, cut & paste, take pix and upload. Plus sort into categories. That way my recipes are always at hand (iPad, iPhone, PC)
